I make this more than almost anything else in my kitchen — and it started as a joke, honestly. I wanted something that felt more exciting than plain water, but without the sugar (or the food dye) in most sports drinks. A few ingredients later, this became my go-to.
It’s naturally blue, a little fizzy, and genuinely more refreshing than anything you’ll find in a bottle at the store.

Ingredients:
- 1 ½ cups coconut water
- ½ tsp blue spirulina powder
- 1 tbsp chia seeds
- Sparkling water, to top off
- Ice
Steps:
- Add the coconut water and blue spirulina to a jar or shaker bottle. Shake or whisk well until fully combined and the color is smooth (no clumps).
- Stir in the chia seeds and let the mixture sit for about 10 minutes, so the chia seeds start to plump up and go a little jelly-textured.
- Fill a glass with ice, pour the mixture over it, then top with sparkling water for the fizz.
- Give it one more gentle stir and drink right away, while it’s cold and fizzy.
Notes:
Blue spirulina powder can be found on Amazon or at most health food stores — a little goes a long way, so start with less if you’re new to it. This keeps well for about a day in the fridge, but the fizz is best fresh.
